SWIFT VOTE Act
The SWIFT VOTE Act would authorize the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to provide grants to states or other eligible jurisdictions to purchase, maintain, or upgrade electronic pollbooks (e-pollbooks) and to develop capabilities for collecting and sharing wait-time information at polling places for federal elections. Grants would be awarded within a year of enactment, with priority given to jurisdictions that need to reduce wait times and that propose wait-time reporting capabilities. Jurisdictions must meet various reporting and certification requirements, including publishing wait-time data publicly, reporting after each election cycle, and ensuring compliance with the EAC’s certification programs. The bill also authorizes $120 million in funding to carry out these provisions.
