Voters on the Move Registration Act of 2025
Voters on the Move Registration Act of 2025 would require certain federally regulated housing and mortgage processes to include a standardized voter registration information sheet. The Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection (a CFPB official) would develop a Uniform Statement explaining how to register to vote and voters’ rights, in English and 10 languages commonly spoken by people with limited English proficiency. Federal rental assistance programs, including public housing, Housing Choice Voucher programs, and related housing funds, would need to provide this statement to lessees or applicants together with leases, income verification forms, or voucher documents. For mortgage applications, creditors would must provide the statement within 5 business days of the application. For federally backed multifamily loans, the property owner must provide the statement to lessees at lease signing. Importantly, completing a voter registration application would be optional, and agencies could issue regulations to implement the measure.
