Safeguarding Trust in Our Politics Act

The Safeguarding Trust in Our Politics Act amends the Internal Revenue Code to bar certain tax-exempt organizations (specifically 501(c)(3) charities) from providing direct funding to state or local governments for the administration of elections for public office, and from funding in ways that are reasonably expected to be used for that purpose. An explicit exception allows such organizations to donate space to be used as polling places. The restrictions take effect for taxable years beginning after December 31, 2025. The bill’s purpose is to reduce perceived or real influence of charitable groups over election administration by restricting funding, while still allowing basic in-kind support (space for polling places).
