Fulbright Teacher’s Loan Forgiveness Act

The Fulbright Teacher’s Loan Forgiveness Act (H.R. 4973) would expand the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program by treating certain Fulbright experiences as public service employment. Specifically, it would add two Fulbright programs—the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program and the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program—to the list of qualifying public service work for loan cancellation under PSLF. In effect, participants in these Fulbright programs would be eligible to have their qualifying student loan payments counted toward the 120 Monthly Payments required for forgiveness, just as traditional public service employment does. The bill is titled the Fulbright Teacher’s Loan Forgiveness Act and has been introduced in the House (as of August 15, 2025) with several co-sponsors.
