Wildfire Grid Resiliency Act
The Wildfire Grid Resiliency Act would create a new demonstration program at the Department of Energy (DOE) called the Resilience Accelerator Demonstration Program. Through this program, the Secretary of Energy (acting via the Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response) would award National Laboratories to pursue innovative technologies aimed at making the electric grid more resilient to wildfires. Eligible projects include technologies for monitoring vegetation management near power infrastructure and technologies intended to improve the safety of first responders during electric grid emergencies. The bill defines “National Laboratory” and “resilience” by reference to existing statutes, and would authorize $10 million annually for 2026–2029 to carry out the program.
