Fusion Workforce Act
The Fusion Workforce Act would authorize and guide federal action to expand fusion-focused education and the skilled technical workforce. It assigns leadership to the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Department of Energy (DOE) to fund and coordinate education, training, and research experiences across the education spectrum—from PreK-12 through higher education and into industry. A central feature is a Fusion Skilled Technical Workforce and STEM Education Coordination Hub, formed by a consortium of at least four institutions, to serve as a nationwide and regional clearinghouse for programs, curricula, best practices, and career pathways in fusion. The act also authorizes a pilot program to bring private-sector professionals into classrooms as short-term instructors and directs targeted outreach to diverse and underrepresented groups and rural areas. Overall, the bill aims to build a robust, industry-aligned fusion education and workforce pipeline, linking universities, national labs, industry, and public programs.
