Coordinated Counterterrorism Act
The Coordinated Counterterrorism Act would amend the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 to broaden the U.S. State Department’s counterterrorism funding and support. Specifically, it would allow assistance funded by the counterterrorism bureau to be provided to foreign counterterrorism-focused military and intelligence units, not just to foreign law enforcement. It also would explicitly authorize information sharing with United States law enforcement agencies as part of that assistance, and confirms that training services are included in the type of assistance that may be provided. In short, the bill shifts some counterterrorism cooperation toward foreign military and intelligence elements and formalizes information sharing with U.S. law enforcement as part of the package.
