THE DON-ument Act
THE DON-ument Act would create the Southern Border Wall National Monument in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. The monument would cover portions of the southern border wall and related lands totaling about 289,920 acres and would be managed by the Secretary of the Interior through the Bureau of Land Management. The act directs administrative coordination with federal departments/agencies that oversee land within the monument and with Indian Tribes whose lands lie inside the monument. It requires the preparation of a general management plan within three years after funds are available for its development and mandates that the completed plan be submitted to Congress. A map showing the monument’s boundaries must be publicly accessible. In short, the bill would designate a federal protected area aimed at preserving the border wall and surrounding lands, with a formal management framework and interagency/tribal coordination.
