Protecting Americans from Doxing and Political Violence Act
This bill, titled the Protecting Americans from Doxing and Political Violence Act, aims to enhance safety and security for Members of Congress, their immediate family members, designated congressional staff, and certain former Members. It creates a regime to limit exposure of “covered information” about at-risk individuals by: (1) prohibiting data brokers from selling or transferring that information and requiring removal from public platforms when requested; (2) requiring government agencies to treat such information as private and to remove it from publicly available content within 72 hours after a written request; and (3) allowing at-risk individuals to seek injunctive or declaratory relief for violations. The bill also authorizes designated legislative officers to act on behalf of Members and staff to comply with these requirements, and it includes specific definitions, exemptions, and enforcement mechanisms. Overall, the act seeks to curb doxing and reduce targeted political violence by limiting the public availability and commerce of sensitive personal data.
