Protecting Free Vaccines Act of 2025
This bill, titled the Protecting Free Vaccines Act of 2025, would temporarily require no-cost coverage for a defined set of immunizations across federal and private health coverage. Specifically, it mandates that group health plans, health insurance issuers, and public programs (Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children's Health Insurance Program, or CHIP) cover certain vaccines with no cost-sharing if those vaccines had an Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendation as of October 25, 2024 (including updates to those vaccines up to January 1, 2030 via approved supplemental changes). The coverage would apply for plan years occurring on or after the date of enactment and through December 31, 2029 (sunset at the end of 2029). The bill also makes a series of conforming amendments to ensure these requirements are implemented across the Public Health Service Act, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), and the Internal Revenue Code, and it modifies Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP rules to align with this temporary coverage expansion. A notable feature is a special rule that the no-cost-sharing requirement does not apply to immunizations administered within the minimum interval between doses.
