Pit River Land Transfer Act of 2025
This bill, titled the Pit River Land Transfer Act of 2025, would transfer administrative control of the Four Corners Federal land in California from the U.S. Forest Service (part of the Department of Agriculture) to the Department of the Interior. It would take approximately 583.79 acres of that land into trust for the Pit River Tribe (including XL Ranch, Big Bend, Likely, Lookout, Montgomery Creek, and Roaring Creek Rancherias), making it part of the Tribe’s Reservation and subject to trust land management rules. A complete survey of the land must be completed within 180 days of enactment, and the land would be administered by the Interior Department as tribal trust land. The bill also prohibits any Class II or Class III gaming on the land under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. The land description is specific: about 583.79 acres, excluding roughly 20.03 acres of roads and public rights-of-way, with a map prepared by the Forest Service dated November 6, 2024.
