To repeal the authority of the District of Columbia to use automated traffic enforcement systems and to erect signage prohibiting right turns at a red traffic signal.
This bill would remove the District of Columbia’s authority to use automated traffic enforcement systems (such as red-light and speed cameras) and would also repeal the ability to erect signage that prohibits certain right turns at red traffic signals. In short, if enacted, DC would no longer be allowed to use camera-based traffic enforcement or to place signs limiting right turns on red. The bill is titled the Stop DC CAMERA Act (also referred to in full as the Stop DC Capital Authoritarian Motorvehicle Enforcement and Restoration of Autonomy Act). It was introduced in the House by Rep. Perry on September 19, 2025 and referred to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Specifically, the bill would repeal: - Section 9e of the District of Columbia Traffic Act, 1925 (the DC code authorizing automated traffic enforcement). - Title IX of the Fiscal Year 1997 Budget Support Act of 1996 (the DC code authorizing signage prohibiting certain right turns at red).
